What a vague comment... he who is a mutant is not necessarily a hero and he who is a hero is not necessarily a mutant. The two are totally independent in nature. If we're talking about the X-Men universe, it's doubly so.

but the flash or spiderman are considered heros yet they could also be mutants so what makes them heros while say wolverine or angel are mutants

To clarify...

The word mutant implies a naturally occuring condition. For example, Wolverine is a mutant because he is further along the evolution chain and his genes have naturally mutated. Peter Parker became Spiderman by chemical means, the spider that bit him was not naturally occuring, his change was an accident.

However, I believe your question comes down to semantics. In the world of X-men people like Wolverine are classified as mutants, so thats what they are called. In the world of Spiderman he is unique, so he is called a hero based on his deeds.

I'm not sure why I took the time to write that out.

Not to get all Marvel fanboy on you snazzy, but the X-Men and Spiderman exist in the same world.
