fuzmeister: Reinventing The Wiffle, Vol. 1
I counted the other day and over the past four or five years there have been roughly four or five Trevor remakes started. Four or five!? Wow. It floors me how ambitious we are and, at the same time, how hard it is to get anything done. When we had Andrew Bado on board at S+F Software, we had a steady supply of pixel art coming in for a variety of projects. I feel like I spread us too thin back in those days (around 2002). Just because we have a boatload of ideas, doesn't mean we can actually manage getting all of them off the ground at once.

Around the time and after that Andrew Bado was spreading his own wings and leaving S+F, I was intent on re-releasing all of our classic titles as DX versions with graphics and presentation that matched the standard set by work we had done with Bado on Inhabitants (the PC version). The last DX project released was Iceman DX in December of 2004. December of 2004!? That's almost two years ago. Often times I find myself criticizing the likes of George Harrison or, perhaps, John Lennon asking why what they did post-Beatles never matched up to their amazing work musically with that pinnacle group. How can I point the finger when it's been almost two years!?

Well, it's 2006 and it's time we shelved this habit of remaking our classics for lack of sufficient art. But before we do that, we're going to do one more title justice in the purest sense of the word. S+F Software is going to bring our Trevor trilogy into the 21st century with everything Inhabitants had times a thousand and one. We had Steve Napierski (of webcomic Dueling Analogs) on board tentatively as the project's lead pixel artist. His work was fantastic and we were all stoked about working with the man. Alas, real life and his other commitments prevented him from being dedicated to this new project. However, he did commit to help us find a new artist by helping us out in several areas. Firstly, he created this lovely montage banner linking you lovely internet users to our wanted page on S+F...

Steve also graciously promoted us on several pixel art and web comic web sites. Here's a list of links:
So, in short, what may seem like a significant failure in a long line of let-downs really is just a reinforcement. This project will happen. It's become too important to a bunch of us not to this time around. By the way, as it stands now, we still plan on having Steve do the box art and manual graphics.

Love to all,
Steve

fuzmeister: Lego Star Wars II Ain't Half Bad
Last year, I was treated to one of the most surprisingly fun games of 2005 with Lego Star Wars. Yes, it was short and relatively easy to beat, but the humor in the game floored me. Perhaps it was the intense cuteness of the lego characters, but I think that this game did a good job of not taking itself too seriously and came out as something really unique and fun. Especially of note is the way the game told the story without ever having one bit of dialog.

I rented Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy last night and, I must say, I'm pretty impressed. They managed to capture the Star Wars atmosphere in lego form better than the original with a lot of new features including mix-and-match character creation and the ability to import your old save file from the original game.

I guess the two things I've really loved more than anything about these two games is the drop-in/drop-out anytime co-operative gameplay which is something that has virtually disappeared from modern day gaming. The sheer amount of characters is also stunning - even though most fall into one of several classes, the ability to even look like 50 some odd Star Wars characters doesn't get old for me. That's just my two cents though.

fuzmeister: So Far I Have Not Found The Science
So tonight I saw a trailer for a film I found to look intriguing. It's called The Science of Sleep and seems to be a film that would be right up my alley. It opens this week, but has a limited release, so I do not know what the odds are that I will see it.

In other news, that damn thermostat is partially working. I say partially because I haven't truly tested the heat yet. The fan and AC aspects work perfectly though. So much for color-coding and systematic wire organization.

I am having a headache from changing over from an old thermostat to the new one seen in the diagram. The one on the left is the old one complete with wiring spots.
