David: Child's Play
The Child's Play charity website is up for 2008.

I won't shoot for anything as lofty as a group effort this year, but if you have the means I would suggest sending something their way. Children's hospitals go out of their way to make the kids comfortable, and, sadly, insurance doesn't cover video games and toys. When my daughter broke her leg last year I was amazed at how awesome the hospital was, and how well the employees worked with her. To think that a small toy donation can brighten a hospital bound kid's day even a little is better than any other gift I can think of.

Come to think of it, I may ask friends/family to donate to CP instead of gifts for me this year...

David: Homosexual Religious Goodness
Quote captpicard
today with many mainstream churches abadoning the Bible in such areas as homosexuality and so on

The main Biblical reference cited to support Christian opposition to homosexuality lies in Leviticus Chapter 8, Verse 22.

Quote The Bible
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

Oh, and let's not forget 20:13

Quote The Bible
If a man has sex with another man, kill them both.

He's such a loving God.

So there it is. The Bible clearly is against homosexuality, and its adherents are entirely entitled to their personal belief.

Some other things that adherent Christians like captpicard believe are:

They don't eat beef - Leviticus 11:3
Or shrimp - Leviticus 11:10-12
They think new moms are dirty - Leviticus 12:2
Bald people are alright - Leviticus 13:40-41
If you get come on you, you're dirty until nightfall - Leviticus 15:16-18
They stay the fuck away from menstruating women - Leviticus 15:19-30
They NEVER wear a linen and wool blend shirt - Leviticus 19:19
Slavery is A-OK for priests - Leviticus 22:11

This is just a short list of things you may not have known that all these Christians against homosexuality also believe. Cool, huh?

David: Can We Overcome Division?
I really hope so.

I don't expect it to happen overnight, of course. If the events of last night are indicative of the future climate of American politics, however, I think we are on the road to doing so.

I know there are many Republicans who are sore right now. I can totally sympathize. After all, my guy lost in the last two elections. My only hope is that the new presidency and congress will work together to bring more prosperity, peace, and personal liberty to all of us. They need to see these benefits before they'll get on board. Again, I can totally understand, I've been waiting 8 years to find the benefits of the Bush presidency.

Certainly there will be many who will cry foul, and find (or invent) reasons to decry the benefits they receive under our new leadership. That's only to be expected. However, I really do believe that America has made the right choice to move toward a more unified government than what we've seen in the last few decades.

David: Let's Go Down This Rabbit Hole Together
Quote captpicard
People say that a world without religion is so much better than one with religion, however history proves different.

This statement interests me on several levels.

Firstly, I'm interested in the "world without religion". Which world is/was this?

Secondly, I'm interested in who the people are that are saying "that a world without religion is so much better than one with religion", and their relevance to the political discussion of left wing politics that the above statement was a part of.

Finally, I want to know what the historical proof of the invalidity of their claim is.

Much appreciation to anyone that can clear these points up for me.
