I'm trying to actively wean myself from checking Facebook every time I open my laptop.

Vent was fun a few years back. Fun enough for me to put it in my bookmark bar and still check it every few days for something new.

I gotta say, for someone trying to quit Facebook, you seem to post quite a bit.

Either way, I do post a lot. I think that's one of the problems.

The problem I have with facebook is that it is too open. My "friends" include friends, acquaintances, family, and people I used to know 20 years ago.

I speak to each group differently. How am I supposed to post something appropriate to all of them? I think everyone has that problem, which is why facebook is so bland and homogenized.

Facebook is much more interesting if you think of it as your private club. If you don't want people to see something that you would want to post, don't let them in the club. I keep a pretty tight friends list for this exact reason.

I think too many people fall victim to wanting to know what other people are up to, and then friend them on Facebook as a means to get access to their profile. I don't have this problem.
