Brandon: Taiwan: Part 2
You can see Part 1 here

We find our adventurers resting in a tiny Taiwanese apartment, watching Galaxy Quest with Chinese subtitles and doing their best to cool off in the incredibly humid weather.

Taiwan is a very energy conscious place. There seems to be no central air, hotels make you put your key into a special slot to get electricity in the room, and also make you give them the key before you leave the premises. Even though Daisy's mom had turned on the air conditioner, it still was rather sticky in there.

Anyway, around noon we were told we were going to go get lunch. This was great, since I was starving. I asked if we were just going to walk there, or what. Apparently they wanted to give us the true Taiwan experience. We took scooters. At first I was a little apprehensive. I'd seen a little of the driving around the city and it seemed to be rather nuts. Once we got going though, I found out that when riding as a passenger it's not all that bad.

We got to a nice little hole restaurant and ordered a bunch of little dishes. I was complimented on my ability to use chopsticks properly. We had chicken, pork, fish, some sort of sushi. I tried a little of everything. The tuna sashimi was awesome. Melt in your mouth good. The rest of it was really good as well. There was some sort of spicy steak in some sort of sauce that was quite yummy.

After our fun little ride back to the apartment we got our giant bag and lugged it down the street to the hotel we would be staying at. When we got out of the elevator and into the "lobby", I was already a little apprehensive. The price was right though, about $35 US a night. We head into the room and found that my gut feelings were right about this place. I don't know if it was the cigarette burns on the floor, the prophylactic in the ashtray on the nightstand, or the porn that showed up when we turned on the TV, that made me uneasy. Brent told me that when we came in they asked if we wanted to "Rest" or stay the night. We had a good laugh about that. Honestly though, that place wasn't so bad. There was a 7-ll down on the ground floor, it didn't smell like smoke, and I didn't have my CSI Semen Detection Gogglesâ„¢ so I didn't have to worry about the sheets.

It was evening by then, and I got a nice shower in, once I figured out how to do it in a bathroom without a shower curtain. I only sprayed the rest of the bathroom a couple times until I got the hang of that. It's an asian thing, I guess. At least we had a western style toilet, and not one of those squat pots. After cleaning up Brent took us down to one of the close night markets and got us some sort of steak. The guy at the cart there apparently recognized Brent from his appearance on some weird Taiwanese game show. Anyway, the steak and noodles were quite good. We hit the sack early and rested up for our next day.

Coming soon: The second coming day!
