I hate stereotypes... I truly do. People are stupid though and need ways to catagorize.

Interestingly enough, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC are (or at least were) grouped together under the Yum! brand. Pizza commercials feature goofy white people, there's the whole chiuaua thingy, and then we have your KFC example.

Are stereotypes bad?

When was the last time you saw an ad for a "male enhancement drug" that didn't have a white guy in it.
I've also noted that white men are neglected when it comes to sneaker commercials.

Why are household chemicals marketed to women? Are they saying that men are dirty? No, but "stereotypically", women buy and use the cleaners more than men.

As a white male, I am not offended. If I were to seek "justice", I would be ridiculed, but minorities pull this all the time.
Society has slowly trained us to offend the majority at the expense of the minority. If we are all unique and should be treated as such, then why use the label "minority" at all? Isn't that just a way of categorizing?

We all use stereotypes to some degree. It doesn't make us stupid. It's actually the same process that allows us to have leaps of intuition.
They are just shorthand created by the pattern recognition system hardwired into every human. A stereotype is only bad if it is applied without cause.

I think that the bigger issue is why have a "Black History" month at all? The isn't an "Asian history" month. No "Irish history" month.

Black History Month was likely created because history was written by white males. By having a Black History Month, you get another side of the story. And yeah, we should celebrate all kinds of minority histories, not just black history.

It's not like blacks or women or any other category besides white males had little part in history, it's that white males didn't find it worthwhile to record.

I'm for any history month. Then again, how much of history is fact and how much is fiction?
