Brandon: WTF is with the Windows Installer
So, why does the Setup project creator in Visual Studio 2005 basically suck, and nobody can seem to write a decent tutorial on WiX so it doesn't seem incredibly complicated. Not to mention that writing custom actions in managed code is apparently a no-no. That makes doing custom actions rather difficult when the built in ones are rather lacking, IMO.

Sure I can use managed code to write custom actions when creating a Setup project in Visual Studio 2005, but the UI is quite limited, plus the progress bar is just random in how it goes, and I can't put more detailed information on the UI.

Anyways, I'm just ranting.

Brandon: Tinkering
So, I'm playing around with some new stuff.

First off is dynamic details. Add as many detail fields as you want.

Secondly are tags for posts. This is currently in beta, I think it works ok, but I'm not sure. Use it to help categorize your posts and stuff.

I think: it works

Brandon: Busy...
Sorta.

So here is where I work

Wilder Technologies

Its not a bad place, but currently I'm the only programmer working on the software. It's actually quite an elegant design. A shining example of object oriented programming. However, all that abstraction makes it difficult to work with sometimes.

Anyways, Its a nice place here. Really small company and all that. All in all I like it.

More later, probably.

Working Hard: or hardly working?

Brandon: I'm getting all AJAXed up!
So, yeah, I got bored.

I noticed that the Picasa albums were sometimes causing the site to load slowly since the rest of the site had to wait until they were loaded to show properly.

So, I decided to change that, and using a little AJAX (with very little of the X part) the albums now load using JavaScript. The rest of the page will show and the albums should load momentarialy after the page does.

It works in Firefox, Safari, and IE7. It *might* work in IE6, and it *should* work in Opera.

If you have any questions or comments let me know.
