I know that at least Nate is watching this show. As for the rest of you, this is merely speculation as to the show's plot, and uninteresting and perhaps spoiler filled if you are not a current viewer of this remarkable television programme (I added the "me" at the end to look cool).

I'm not going to get too far out there this time.

This is about the food "drop".

According to the training film, the hatch is staffed by a two man team. It wasn't built to be staffed by a two man team, but ever since the "incident", that's been the way things are. Just alternate your sleep patterns and push the button every 108 minutes.

In that case, the food drop was not for them.

I mean, really, have you noticed the size of these cans? The giant tubs of dressing? Who (besides Hurley) is going to use that much Dharma Initiative® Ranch before it goes bad. Who can eat one of those big cans of carrots or green beans before they start growing mold? Those were cafeteria sized cans. These are also the same sized cans that were in the pantry.

Which leads me to believe that wherever this food is coming from, they are unaware of the "incident" and still think they are dropping food on a fully functioning electromagnetic research facility.

But, why didn't the passengers of flight 815 hear the plane that dropped the food?

I don't think it was dropped by a plane, but that theory is a little too wacko to post.
