In the 1980s, Depeche Mode pioneered a genre and Martin Gore is one of the few modern day musicians who really believes in a less is more approach which has worked tremendously well for them.

So, while I'm sorry you don't like them, can you agree that impact-wise, they've done a lot?

I can agree that they've been a heavy influence, but, as I don't enjoy their sound, I find that influence to be negative.

I do think that this current resurgence of theirs is a quick attempt to cash back in after so many modern day groups began mimicking their style.

I concede, however, that it's all in the eye, or in this case ear, of the beholder.
