David: Apple and Rumors
I hope beyond all hope that Apple does not release a cell phone tomorrow.

Based on shear speculation the buzz on this thing has grown to gargantuan proportions. I want these people to cry.

I think Steve should tease it, however. Make 'em think it's the phone. Better yet, outright dismiss it in the first 5 seconds of the keynote. "We're not releasing a cell phone today. Now, on the the sales figures..."

Personally, I want to see Leopard. This version of X has something well above and beyond it's predecessors. I can feel it.

Plus my coworker's neighbor's cousin is friends with a guy who is dating a girl who's brother works at Apple, and he said that (and I quote), "Leopard is like Jesus in bit form."

we have a deal with Apple through work that gets us the latest and greatest when it becomes available. I am salivating for Leopard. I know a guy that was on the same airplane as an ex-Apple emloyee that had met Steve Jobs once. He said that Leopard is like a binary Xenu.

The only issue I'm having with Apple is that every release of OS X they introduce a new graphical style that is applied to only the new apps so you get this inconsistency in how things look and work.

But, on the other hand, it's not the train wreck that is Vista.

And the iPhone? Never. I see a tablet PC though.

I don't use a Mac, but my brother does. He doesn't have high speed Internet, so he can't reasonably download the OS upgrades he needs, which leaves him unable to use a lot of things on his computer. It seems (unless he's just mistaken) that Macs need to be continuously upgraded. Other than that, I could see switching if Vista is everything I've heard it's going to be.

Each version of OS X usually sees about 8 upgrades over the course of it's life (10.4.1 - 10.4.x). Usually any other time software update pops up it's for an Apple branded application on the system, such as Quicktime, iLife apps, and any of Apple's various "Pro" applications.

Windows, in my experience, undergoes system updates every week. Personally, I prefer the bundled and infrequent update.

I think Apple should get into the videogame console industry.

He is mistaken. You don't have to continuously upgrade. You can upgrade quite often. But you don't have to. I'm running 10.2 on my laptop.

We routinely stay one or two upgrades behind at wrk so that we can keep stability. Personally, I upgrade my laptop every chance I get. Seems to be stable enough for me.

I have seen upgrades to OS X kill workflows in several situations. Especially in the case of Quark XPress extensions.
