David: I Believe in Harvey Dent Too
Okay, The Dark Knight, which is the next entry in the revamped Batman franchise, has some internet marketing going on already.

www.ibelieveinharveydent.com is a fake barebones campaign website for Gotham D.A. Harvey Dent (who later becomes Two Face).

There's another site www.ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com which originally contained the same content, but had an animation of clown makeup being drawn on Harvey's face, and then dissolved to a photo of Heath Ledger as The Joker. However, as you can see if you follow the link, the site has changed. If you take a look at your scroll bar, you'll see that the page extends way down. If you highlight all the text you'll see "ha ha ha ha ha" repeated all the way to the bottom.

But is that all that is there? No. There are single letters within the rest that spell out "see you in December".

I have found the above information across several websites. What I'm about to tell you, I haven't seen on any others.

You see, I'm somewhat of an amateur cryptologist, and I'm pretty sure that there is much more here. The varying size of the "ha"s can't be random, especially since a look at the style sheet shows that each is set up as its own style class. Interestingly enough, there are 36 seperate classes; one for each letter and digit.

Unfortunately, this is as far as I can go with this today, as I'll be busy until 10pm tonight. Anybody else care to crack the code?

Nathan Tyree - (Overwhelmed by existential angst)
Okay, maybe. So far I can't see a discernible pattern, but I'll keep looking.
fuzmeister - (The Real ST)
Also - according to this, the hidden message is something like "See you in December." which is when they are speculating the trailer will be released.
Nathan Tyree - (Overwhelmed by existential angst)
Davis already pointed that out: "There are single letters within the rest that spell out "see you in December".
"

I think he's looking for Another message

36 huh...
Sounds like 26 alpha and 10 numeric doesn't it?
Archimago - ()
this is the sequence. I haven't checked for accuracy.

Using the frequency chart, I searched for the word "the" to test if it was a likely code. It appeared 6 times. That doesn't mean there is a code.

I'm tired. My eyes hurt. maybe will do more later. hulk...sleep...

Demannu - (<--- Eats Worms)
hard to find an H using the Friedman frequency. I'm assuming you used the 18,*,5 combination to find T*E. Assuming the most common find (18,4,5) translates as THE.
replce the remaining numbers using this assumption gives us:

I don't know.
there are doubles in there. that wouldn't make sense to change the class to the same class...

apparently the original code game revealed an image of The Joker.
Archimago - ()
H isn't hard to find. Frequency analysis shows h as coinciding with 4. T coincides with 18, and e coincides with 5. a search of the "code" for 18,4,5, reveals 6 occurences. Yeah. I pounded my head agin' it for a bit more. The are some repeating runs of numbers.
32,E,15,12,13,11,T,19,8,20,21,6,11 is the longest. I also think it's interesting that there is a series above the 404 error message. Could that be a keyword?
This could suggest a Vigenère cipher, but it could be that it's a random sequence repeated. If there is a code, it would take a far more patient man than me to crack it.
Demannu - (<--- Eats Worms)
actually, in the last half the following string is repeated 3 times:T,34,19,E,29,T,32,E,15,12,13,11,T,19,8,20,21,6,11,30,30,T,T,19,E,E

I edited my comment above. Didn't think you would post this quickly.
Where's David in all of this. He's the amateur cryptologist(I prefer cryptographer), yet we are doing all the crunching. Any thoughts Jestmeister?
I think there are far too many doubles in this to be anything but nonsense.
The attempt at breaking the "code" was fun. I hadn't used those muscles for a while. To bad I use them for nothing.
Nathan Tyree - (Overwhelmed by existential angst)
I think the repeating sequences is due to copy pasting chunks that were chosen for aesthetic concerns. It's all gibberish.
David - ()
Wow, you guys really worked at it! This is the first chance I've had to come back to it.

I prefer to think of myself as a student of cryptology and not a working cryptographer. 8P

The large repeating chunks lead me to believe that it's nonsense. Then again, there's another factor that we haven't even considered. Some letters are upper-case and some letters lower case...

Hopefully I'll have time to tinker tonight.
David - ()
I'm going to try to get the folks over at Alternate Reality Gaming Network to work on this. They already have a forum thread for the whole thing here. They haven't yet mentioned the possible encryption, though...I'll need to seed that idea.
Nathan Tyree - (Overwhelmed by existential angst)
I looked at it again. I still think it's gibbersih. Unless it's double encoded. Hex maybe...
David - ()
Thing is, this is rumored to be put together by 42, a company that specializes in making ARGs, which are full of these kinds of codes.

Going to all this trouble, seeding real world artifacts, and then leaving off with "see you in december" seems like a waste to me. I'm telling you, there's more.
Nathan Tyree - (Overwhelmed by existential angst)
are you Moktuk44?
