I'm here with Nate. He set his computer down for a bit, so I decided to see what he's been typing... It's true, his alcohol level does in fact mean an[dhaishdiuasd
I hope your kid grows up healthy and strong.... and sexy... I may be looking to settle down about then.... dad.
I've heard bad things. It's a shame, but really not a surprise.
I know, I know. But after hearing Kevin Smith and Wil Wheaton both say such great things about it, I got really excited.
The problem is that it relies too heavily on the viewer being familiar with the material. If you haven't read Watchmen there will be several moments where you're thinking, "Wait, why is this happening?"
On the flip side, if you have read Watchmen, you realize every single change they made to the material, and most of the time it's hard to stomach. There are some huge alterations, and most of them don't really have a valid reason. The #1 offender in my book is that they renamed "The Crimebusters" to "The Watchmen", and drastically altered that meeting by turning it into a team consisting of The Comedian, Silk Specter II, Night Owl II, Rorschach, Dr. Manhattan, and Ozymandius.
I'm still hopeful too. I hope that it is like the LOTR trilogy. I can appreciate the books and the movie as different tellings of the same story.
If I'm not mistaken, the Crimebusters did consist of all those members didn't it? It's been a while since I read the comic. I didn't reread it because I want to avoid the problems you mentioned above. I will be able to follow along, but not be distracted by minute changes.
Captain Metropolis was also at The Crimebusters meeting, but is absent from "The Watchmen".
In the book, The Crimebusters never got off the ground, and the initial meeting didn't result in any real group. In the movie, The Watchmen were a functioning group of vigilantes.
While this seems like a small change, it screws up the history and motivations of several characters. There are also several other changes that are much bigger.
That being said, I did enjoy the movie, and wouldn't recommend against seeing it. It just...has problems.
