David: Hooray!
Common sense is slowly creeping back into Washington.

I must say, I'm very divided over the expiration of some of the parts of the Patriot Act. Privacy is very important and is granted to us being that we are U.S. citizens. I believe that the government has the right to watch certain people or groups, but ONLY if they have reasonable doubt that they are up to no good or could pose a serious threat to us. The fact is, there are terrorist here in the country and they could mobilize whenever they get the signal. Those type of people I think should be monitored. People like you and I that don't do that kind of crap, I think the government shouldn't have any reason to watch us. It was proven the terrorist attacks on September 11th came because of a breakdown of intelligence and the gorvernment's quick reaction was to pass the Patriot Act. The world is more aware now of terrorism, as are all of us, so I think they can let go of some parts of the Act, but not all of it. We have a right to privacy, but the government also has an obligation to keep us safe.
Nathan Tyree - (Overwhelmed by existential angst)
Those who suggest that we should trade away freedom for safety completely misunderstand the nature of the world. Freedom we can have. Safety is an impossible goal (and one that, if it existed, would not be worth the sacrifice).

The Patriot Act has nothing to do with protecting the citizens of this country. It was, rather, a machiavellian power grab made by wannabe fascists.

Just who do you think you're talking to. Don't lump me in with you and your ilk. I make bombs in my basement. I haven't hit my intended target yet, but I have made dry runs. Practice makes perfect they say, and when it comes time to take the fight to the streets, I'll be ready.

One more sheet of paper added to my file in Washington.
