David: The Present Has No Bearing On The Past
If you liked A before B came out, you may and can continue to like A even if it is your opinion that B is a steaming pile of bantha poodoo. The appearance of B has not changed A in any way shape or form.
If you like my blue house and I decide to paint it a green color that you don't like, I have not done anything offensive toward you. It's my fucking house. Look at a picture of the blue one (it was shot first) if you don't like the green one. Better yet, quit whining about it. It's just a fucking house.
If I paint a picture and someone likes it, and asks me if they can paint one like it to show others, and give me credit for the inspiration, my audience need not be bitter about it, especially if the other version is incredibly popular. My version still exists in it's true form, and I've probably done other interesting, extra shit since.
