David: Why I'm So Well Loved By My Windows-Loving Contemporaries
I received an email from the R&D geek the other day which contained a news article about Longhorn's new name.

The official name of the new operating system: Windows Vista. Betas are supposed to be out at the beginning of next month, so I'll refrain from ridiculing it until then.

In celebration of this momentus occasion I decided to take a new desk ornament to work on Monday.

In other news, I got a Gmail account today. I haven't really started using it yet, but it looks a lot slicker than MSN Hotmail. Hopefully it will come out of beta and into public release soon.

Now I must return to cleaning out the spare bedroom. It looks like a landmine went off in there and I want to try sleeping in that bed, as my back has been killing me lately and...

Ah, what the hell would you all care about that?

David: Using More Words
2-HeadedGiraffe posted the other day about people having rights. After reading it I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but felt the need to comment on the post. I asked a simple question and have yet to receive a response from TwoHeadedGiraffe. 2 Dildos for Julie (I can't remember how it's spelled) seemed to misunderstand this response and then paraphrased the original post. I have added another comment to the post that more explicitly expresses my view on the matter, and hope all who have read the original post and may have misinterpreted my original comment will revisit the post in question.

Then be sure to return to your regularly scheduled life. ~.^

David: Movies
I saw a couple of flicks this weekend.

War of the Worlds

If you haven't already read this book, you've been missing out on one of the greatest Sci-Fi masterpieces ever. This film does a great job of bringing the story to a contemporary setting, and is the first film in years to actually scare me, or at least really unnerve me. The tripods are just damn creepy, and the sound they make brings you to the edge of your seat. I think that this is a movie that's going to lose a lot on the TV screen, as the sense of scale will be greatly diminished. If you have the time and scratch, get to the theatre to see this.

Batman Begins

Finally! A Batman movie that resembles Batman! While it's not perfect, this movie finally makes Batman real. No overly gothic Burton or overly campy Shumaker, but just a good solid film that sticks to its source. Go check it out.

I got to catch the IMAX version of Batman, and it's the first time I've seen a movie IMAX style. Wow.

I must say that the previews for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory have got me very interested. Gene Wilder's creepy Mr. Wonka will be a tough act to follow, though.
