An ugly little world

It's easy to look at our world and be disgusted. I think it's the Internet. It's an amplification of the 24 hour news cycle. We glorify the worst of our society.
Sitting quietly in the shade reading a book = 1 like
Some jackass punches another jackass in McDonalds = 1 million likes
The smallest transgressions are suddenly national news. Most of these things don't matter.
Scientific research estimates that there are over 100 million galaxies out there. GALAXIES! Each of those galaxies are packed ful of stars. Untold planets. There is zero evidence that there is life on any of them, but I believe there is. I believe that life exists on many planets. The life may be simple or complex, but it exists. Some of that life may be intelligent. And on one of those planets, societies have formed with their own unique customs and social norms.
The thought that makes me feel better about our ugly little world is that on that other perfectly strange little planet, genocide and murder and rape and villainy exists the same as on ours.
Hap and Leonard

I've only read a couple of Joe Lansdale novels and a couple of short stories. None of these featured the characters Hap and Leonard, so the title of the show on SundanceTV meant nothing to me. The trailers looked like interesting pulp mystery novel fun.
During the opening credits I saw Lansdale's name and got excited and worried at the same time. The thing I like about his writing is the no hold's bar nature. It's about as un-PC as you can get. I wasn't sure how that would translate to commercial television. Turns out it almost made it. If I had never read his work, I might have been impressed.
Like the characters in the books I read, Hap and Leonard use racial and sexual slurs as casual conversation. If you make it through any of Lansdale's work, you know that in his world words are just tools to get at ideas. Other than that, the language in the show is mostly stripped of profanity. It Suffers for it only because I know it's missing. It's strange, but I think the profanity of his books allows ideas to slip in to your brain easier. Look at the opening lines of Bubba Ho Tep. While you laugh and cringe at the description of an infected bump, he slips in the feeling of helplessness that comes with old age. Take away the profanity and the rest feels flat.
Over all, it was a good show. Not great, but good enough to tune in again.

I want one of these, but I wouldn't pay what they're asking.
I was going to suggest that everyone should take up a collection and buy one for me. On second thought, I realized that I would be obligated to pitch in to buy one for everyone else too. Factor in administrative costs and the price would increase more than the original sticker. Some people would want one even if they couldn't afford to pitch in much, so bump it up even more. In the end, I would end up paying a lot more for something that I really didn't want in the first place.
President Trump

Jeez! It might really happen. He's still leading the GOP pack. Now it looks like Bloomberg could run as an independent. That would split the dem votes the way Nader did in 2000.
As a libertarian minded person, this might not be all bad. The last 2 presidencies have been allowed to draw more governmental power into the White House. If Trump were to get that position, congress might act in a bipartisan way to bri

KOKO HUNGRY. KOKO LOVE MAN. MAN GIVE KOKO FOOD.
We had to teach her a few new signs and we also wrote a speech for her. Koko improvised some.
KOKO WANT FOOD. LOVE MAN. STUPID MAN. KOKO LOVE EARTH. WANT FOOD.
Koko is highly intelligent and thinks about complex concepts. That she has the same political views as her trainer is coincidence, but proves the importance of the message. I mean, if a gorilla understands it, only an idiot would disagree.
KOKO WANT FOOD! STUPID MAN HURT EARTH. LOVE EARTH KOKO FOOD EARTH LOVE STUPID MAN STUPID PROTECT.
Humans could learn a lot from Koko.
KOKO SMART APE. KOKO STUPID HUMAN. KOKO HURT LOVE EARTH KOKO PROTECT STUPID EARTHE MAN FOOD GIVE ME DAMN BANANA!
