2-HeadedGiraffe: Belated Thanksgiving Post
How does overendulging on food just before entering a season which is, for many, devoted to senseless consumerism show thankfulness for anything? If you want to show real appreciation, you should fast for Thanksgiving as people originally did on such days.
Going without would tend to make people appreciative. It just seems to me like Thanksgiving is another good idea poorly executed.

Senseless consumerism is certainly practiced, but not by a majority of people. Most people look to the season as a time to re-affirm family relationships.
Do we buy a lot of stuff? Yes.
Is it senseless? Depends on if there is a good reason.
I buy my children presents. It makes them happy. That in turn makes me happy. I don't get them everything they want. Just what fits my budget.
If feeling guilty about your blessings makes you happy, you're a kook.
