2-HeadedGiraffe: Magic Wand, Make My Monster Grow
I seem to have created a monster with my post about Sicko. Not only were there numerous comments on that, everyone, their brother, and Nathan Tyree seem to have made a related or semi-related post. Of course, some of these may have been created even if I didn't get the ball rolling, but it seems like I started something. If everyone was already thinking of these issues and this was going to happen anyway, all the better, but it makes you think.

2-HeadedGiraffe: My faith in this Country
Just another death post, though one that could have been posted long ago.

If you haven't already, see Michael Moore's latest film, entitled "Sicko." It's currently playing at a theater near you.

Those two topics are semi-related.

2-HeadedGiraffe: Mark of...Cain?
I was watching a program on TV earlier about the story of Cain and Abel, which is probably one of my favorite stories in the Bible. It was interesting how they brought the Judaic and Islamic traditions, as well as other later writings about the event, into the interpretation and discussion.

This story holds my interest in particular for a few reasons. Cain, essentially, would have had little concept of murder. No human being had died before. It wouldn't be until much later when God would actually tell humans it was wrong to kill, though perhaps eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (or the Knowledge of Everything, in some translations) should have given humans that information already. The fact of the matter is, though, this was a completely unprecedented crime, so whether he realized the magnitude of what he was doing before he did it is a valid question.

The other issue is that God banishes Cain and marks him as protected. Somehow, Cain meets a wife (the program suggested some traditions say it was his sister because there being another woman would necessitate more people than the story says exist at the time). He builds the first city and his descendants go on to make some wonderful discoveries. This does not sound like typical Biblical treatment of a murderer.

So, to summarize, this guy gets jealous, does something no one's told him not to do, and receives a mixed blessing. Mixed because, while he and his family do great things, he's been cast out of the presence of God, which for a true believer would be a very bad thing.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong here, but it's a very interesting story.

2-HeadedGiraffe: I
As I promised on the S+F forum, this post is about the Wii games I have. As an added bonus, I'm posting from my Wii. Here goes:

Elebits
This is a fun little game. Basically anything you want to move or manipulate in the environment, you can. You have to find and capture Elebits, who like to hide in or behind just about everything. Essentially, it's a game about tearing the house apart and making a mess. Fun, in an off-beat, creative way, the sort of innovation we should be lucky enough to see more often.

Exite Truck
A racing game with a twist. The goal is not just to come in first, but also to earn stars. You get stars by making long jumps, smashing into other trucks, drifting, or doing any of several other such things. This adds an element not typical for the genre, adding, IMHO, to the experience. The steering wheel control scheme is a great use of the technology.

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon
I've seen bad reviews, but this plays nicely on Wii. The controls are interesting, if not always the best setup. Other than that, typical fighter, though it's not as impossibly difficult as some entries in the series, which is a plus.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
I'm only on dungeon three, but so far, this seems like a GCN game with Wii controls tacked on. I'm not convinced this is better than the GCN version, just different. As is, though, it's probably the most interesting 3-d Zelda so far, just because of some of the things it's done differently already.

Wii Sports
Surprisingly good. I thought it would get old very quickly, but so far, it hasn't. The baseball is far too simple, but it's great otherwise.

Hand tired. Me stop writing.

Mood: Content
Music: Cindy Lauper - All Through the Night
Etc.: 530 and 222
