fuzmeister: Films That Don

Anyone seen this film? It's based on a novel by Phillip K. Dick - looks pretty interesting. The rotoscoped feature is cool though I'm not sure it serves any context-based purpose. Either way, this movie came out around last summer. I saw a trailer at (maybe) X-Men III. Now tell me - why would they show trailers for movies that have limited releases. According to Wikipedia, this film got released in like seventeen theatres... unless I misread.

Independent films are brilliant, but I guess if they received the attention they deserved, they wouldn't be quite so much, would they?

For what it's worth...

I've seen this movie, and I don't think your missing much. Phillip K. Dick novels are pretty good, but the movie versions, not so much.

I cite "Paycheck" as the prime example.

That's actually worth quite a bit - sometimes when I see films like this, I'm automatically like, "I should pick that up."

Take Michel Gondry - love his music videos and loved Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but I just bought Science of Sleep based on those and I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's a cool movie with lots of great, trippy stop-motion and such, but I'm not sure I like the inaccessibility of its story.

Sometimes, things try to be abstract and are, but there store wasn't great when it was concrete. If that makes sense.

"Bladerunner:" another example of a Dick novel made into a movie. Now, I watched the movie late at night once, and I didn't get a whole lot out of it, but from what I understand, it has almost nothing to do with the book it's based off of.

I think A Scanner Darkly is available on DVD, isn't it?

Speaking of Michel Gondry - this is his new one... it looks a little too normal compared to his other stuff. Could go either way.

Archimago - ()

Bladerunner is a wonderful movie that stands on it's own. It doesn't follow the book(Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep), but is good regardless. The book is great too. This is one of the few cases that I agree with the movie straying from the book. Each has its strong points.
