fuzmeister: If I Could Have Either a Word With Mr. Dave or His Friend Buster.
Last night, Kate and I went to Dave&Buster's in Pittsburgh. I hadn't been there before, but my friend Nick said a few years back it was a cool place if you like video games and such. Basically, it's a Chuck E. Cheese for adults with a restaurant, bar, and arcade all brought together.

My opinion is mixed - the food was mediocre at best - definitely overpriced though. The arcade part was fun and I thought the way they handled the swipe card system for playing games was interesting. However, there wasn't enough variance in the available games. Sure, they had your DDR-type game, your classic games, your racing games, your shooting games, and you virtual boxing game... but the thing is they had like 4 iterations of Sega's lackluster House of the Dead (which I enjoy playing, but four machines for the same series?). Cornered in a small little area were some classics - Donkey Kong (with DK Jr. to boot), Space Invaders, Qix, Centipede... I enjoyed the fact that they actually honored these games in such a modern-ish setting.

Some guy began playing Pacman whenever we first walked in and was still playing when we left. I doubt he beat Billy Mitchell though. No way, jose.

fuzmeister: One Thought of Many
I'm sure that a game has done something like this before, but maybe not. So I've had coder's block for a couple months - our little project Vexorex is maturing slowly, but I haven't had any stellar ideas... tonight I might have had one. I have the idea to do levels/missions as time-based. This does not mean that you are timed, it simply means that a mission will be like 30 minutes long.

How can I ensure that the player will play for that long?

Simple.

Simply make the game absolutely real-time. That means that the game won't wait for you to kill all the enemies before it spawns more... events would unfold in real time without regards to whether or not the player was ready.

Interesting idea. I might use it on Vexorex.

As a side note, I realized tonight after years of listening to it that the song Emit Remmus from Red Hot Chili Peppers' Californication record is "Summer Time" spelled backwards.

fuzmeister: Ah, Video Games
This essentially sums up how I feel about a lot of games making use of previously well-defined characters:

fuzmeister: Cat Blood
So this morning I got up late because I worked a 17 hour shift yesterday. I go to get in the shower and there are like paw prints in blood on the tub "floor." That's when I realize there is a razor sitting there in the tub too.

Sometimes animals are dumb. Luckily the blood washed off.

I'm still tired
