fuzmeister: Attack of the Police Officers at Circuit City While The News Broadcasts The Chaos or How I Saved Christmas From Blind Commercialism
Today I was disgusted by the influx of potential customers at Circuit City at 5 am. I got up at 3:40 am hoping to maybe get some cheap CDs or something (I never even learned if the CDs were on sale as in previous years). This is about seven hours or so before I normally get up in the morning, so I was pretty cracked out due to the lack of sleep. I have to mention that I'm in Lancaster, PA right now during the holiday and this area is misconstrued as being only farmland or only having Amish people (a stereotype strengthed by the Amish school thing earlier this fall).
There were probably over 1,000 people lined up stretched around the building. I must be an idiot, but I wasn't sure why - the circular didn't even look that good. Regardless of how many people were there exactly, it was busier than any other black friday experience. I don't see a problem with commercialism or capitalism, but the rush of people into the store prevented anyone from having any kind of positive experience. I was sickening to see people behave like animals for the latest Adam Sandler at a super cheap price when it will be in the bargain bin anyway in a few weeks.
I guess I just don't get the capitalist model. Right now, Wii is selling at obscene prices on eBay, but in a few months, it won't be much more than the MSRP. Why? Does time move that much slower for everyone? It moves pretty steadily for me.
